Earth-2619
Earth-2619 is one of the primary earths from which characters draw their collective histories.
Background
Earth-2619 shares much of its history with Earth-Prime. Up until the early 1990's, the population of Earth-2619 had the potential for genetic mutation that could result in superhuman abilities, similar to that of Earth-1330. However, during the mid-1990's, an engineered, airborne pathogen known later as the Carrion Virus consumed nearly 40% of the world's population. Because the Carrion Virus had a mortality rate of 33%, response to the virus -- including its cure -- framed much of the geopolitical landscape.
Once a cure had been created for the Carrion Virus, much unrest was seen throughout the world as the cure neutralized metahuman abilities and inadvertently ensured they would never be seen again in the world. The cure had effectively wiped the metahuman species out. To address the need for super-powered individuals, the Order was created.
Governance Structure
Sovereign states, such as the United States, Canada, Germany, Frances, and so forth govern their own citizens independently. The United Nations exists in an effort to promote international cooperation and resource-sharing, but does not enforce laws of its own accord. All sovereign states aligned must, however, abide by its charter and principles.
Organizations of Note
- Consortium - Formerly an independent biopharmaceutical company known as BioGen Amalgamate, BioGen dissolved after creating the cure for the Carrion Virus and had transformed itself a global humanitarian organization. The Consortium has medical facilities in virtually every country of the world and all services provided are free of charge. Perhaps most importantly, the Consortium also created Compound 36, as a means of delivering super-powered individuals back into the world. Procuring agents of the Order can be done by sovereign government request through contracted services. The Consortium also has access to an extraterrestrial artifact they refer to as the Reliquary. The Consortium is self-governed by a ruling body known as the Sapientia.
- Order - The Order is the paramilitary arm of the Consortium. It is composed of 24 individuals, both male and female, all enhanced through a substance referred to as Compound 36. Individual members of the Order are referred to by their corresponding Greek letter, the number of the corresponding Greek letter, or generically as Ranks or Agents. Each member of the Order is associated with a Handler that provides direction or assignments.
- Aberrations - Aberrations are Order Agents that have surpassed their tolerance for Compound 36. They are considered monsters by the Consortium and are to be executed on sight. Their existence is hidden from humanity at all costs.
State of the Union
Currently, the Order is in its 15th Generation and is quickly approaching its 16th. The current Epsilon, Leocadia Rey has been incapacitated by an off-world attacker. This has called into question the isolationist policy that the Sapientia have mandated. With few exceptions only Agents of the Upper House, Ranks 1-12 respectively, are aware that there are other worlds that are in conflict with their own. The Global Security Initiative is aware of Earth-2619 as well as Compound 36 and has stolen enough complete samples to imbue two of their operatives, Palisade and Barricade, with permanent augmentations.
The number of Aberrations are on the rise, which has resulted in further losses from the Order due to trying to keep their existence hidden. Most recently the former Pi, Bridger Brooks, was found to be attempting to communicate with known Aberrations. As a result, he was excommunicated and hunted down and killed by Demetria Bergsen. Recently, Cyril Baptiste authorized a mission that was coordinated by Aurelia Pasqsuale and Aleksandr Orlov that sent Aras Devirm to the United States to stop known Aberration Miller Wright from acquiring falsified identity documents for other Aberrations on the run from the Order. Ultimately, because Order members are being cycled through faster, Initiates are being promoted to Agents too soon, and Agents without the requisite experience are being promoted to higher Ranks without the skill necessary to be commensurate with the title.
Growing unrest within the Lower House, Ranks 13-24, has also been seen. Harper Vale has been conducting an investigation of her own, with assistance from Aras Devirm and a few other, to determine what happened to Leocadia and has evidence to believe that the Consortium is directly hiding information that could lead to Leocadia's cure.
Mia Renner has been the subject of much debate as her unique C36 ability has been called into question. With a 50/50 split Sapientia vote on whether or not she should be promoted to the Upper House based on the ability alone Her Handler, Elise Gerhardt has been navigating the political waters to keep Mia from being used as a weapon to support the Consortium's kill order on all Aberrations and known opponents.
Leocadia died of the her off-world infection while a contingent of Agents investigated the threat of a GeoLink takeover by the King's Republic. This lead to an emergency slideshifting incident where Pavel Dushenko nearly became an Aberration and forced him to undergo stability tests. During these stability tests, Cassius Stolarz challenged Eden Yates during which she contacted her Agent, Rinat Hassan to have him removed. Cassius then contacted his Handler, Mercer Lord to escalate the situation but also secretly sent an additional message to Pavel's closest known associates, including Mia Renner, Harper Vale, Parish Kent, and Aras Devirm to intervene.
