Harper Vale is the current Nu of the Order on Earth-2619 and an Archangel within the Host on Earth-2620.
Earth-2620
Early Life
Harper Vale is from the Upper East Side of Manhattan, United States. A child of wealth and privilege, she enjoyed a charmed existence although she resented the strict upbringing of her parents. She was taught to be polite and courteous, but also warm and charming. She was never to disagree and always smile regardless of the circumstance. She was instructed to be kind but firm, yet never to disrespect or voice an opinion of dissent as to not upset anyone around her. The rules of etiquette were ingrained into her. For all the sins that existed in her world, none was taken more seriously than bringing shame to the Vale Foundation.
The Vale Foundation was one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the United States, donating anywhere between thirty-five and seventy-five million dollars annually to any number of charities. Harper quietly resented being part of an upper crust society and hated even more that she'd become nothing more than the Poor Little Rich Girl cliché.
In her last attempt to escape from a life that meant cocktail parties, silent auctions, gala season planning, and society section photographs, she took the Compatibility Test and fell within optimal conditions. She was offered an invitation to become an Initiate; an invitation she eagerly accepted.
As an Initiate
Harper attended the New York, United States training facility.
Harper's surname was well-known to many of the Initiates, which didn't necessarily help her out. She was seen as someone who didn't necessarily belong there at best and someone who didn't deserve to be there at worst. Still, it didn't deter her. In fact, when other Initiates would give her a hard time, she worked that much harder to prove them wrong, to prove anyone wrong. She took to studies well and seemed to show a natural inclination toward virtually everything she set out for, which again didn't help her out in making connections with other Initiates.
When Harper's skill at sensing Compound 36 became known, she noticed a shift in the way the faculty approached her, which in turn made the other Initiates that much more distrusting and resentful toward her. By this point, she was relatively used to it, but one Initiate in particular seemed to take abnormal pleasure in making her life difficult -- Seraphine Marchand. Seraphine, on numerous occasions, was disciplined during training exercises for inflicting an inordinate amount of pain directed at Harper.
As Harper became more versed combat, however, other Initiates began to back down to her during confrontations especially if those confrontations leaned toward becoming physical. Seraphine had already been promoted to the Order by that point, but it seemed for all the time Harper felt powerless either prior to her life with the Consortium or during she recovered now at this point during her training as an Initiate. Not only could she take care of herself, she could take care of others.
It was during her third year that she'd met Parish Kent and Cassius Stolarz, new Initiates that would soon become her closest companions.
As Part of the Order
Once Harper's ability to sense Compound 36 was discovered, she was fast-tracked to becoming an Agent. She received private instruction in not only the use of that particular ability but also in other areas as well. It seemed, again, that she was being favored for no reason -- something she did not particularly enjoy. But, given that this was not at the wishes or desires of her parents, she was less reluctant to accept the assistance.
Fortunately for Harper, as did most things in her life, she took naturally to instruction and had a preternatural grace that allowed her to excel in virtually all of her tasks. Hand-to-hand combat, marksmanship, melee combat. She was good, but not exceptionally so, in almost all areas. She was seen as a kind of jack-of-all-trades but master of none, except of course in tracking.
Leocadia Rey personally instructed her in the art of her Compound 36 sensing ability. While Leocadia's sense of tracking was fundamentally different than her own, Leocadia ultimately showed her not only how to harness the ability, but to use it in ways she'd never thought of. For example, by overactivation of the ability, she could 'tag' an object with Compound 36 using the natural oils in her skin, and track the object as long as it was within her range. She also found that she could track specific individuals rather than just the Compound itself. It was during this time that she became extremely close with Leocadia.
Harper had achieved the rank of Pi within a year of becoming an Agent where she remained for an extended period of time. She continued to work closely with Parish and Cassius even though Cassius was pulled for more scientific tasks than anything else.
Recently, Harper and Parish were assigned to apprehend a rogue Handler, Astrid Windsor, after a Hunting Party had been called for her Agent, Annaliese Kessler, who had become an Aberration in the line of duty. Harper and Parish quickly subdued Astrid, who'd taken an illegal supply of Compound 36 and had begun to show signs of aberrational mutations.
More recently still Harper, Raphael Scordato, Mia Renner, Demetria Bergsen, and Aras Devirm were dispatched to Ceccano, Italy to ascertain whether or not reports of individuals exhibiting signs of Compound 36 intake were true. Harper, Raphael, and Mia confirmed the reports and eliminated the individuals that had illegally taken the Compound. Meanwhile, Demetria and Aras confirmed the source of the theft at the Factory location and eliminated the stolen supply chain.
Harper's Handler is Scarlett Erickson.
Physical Appearance
Harper is considered by many of her peers to be beautiful. She has light brown eyes with medium-brown hair with blond highlights and darker lowlights. She tends to wear minimal makeup (if any) and dresses in casual clothes, preferring jeans and a sweater to virtually any other option. She's on the taller side of average female height and has the same slender yet muscular build that other female Agents have. She has no visible distinguishing features such as birthmarks or scars.
Powers and Skills
Harper is an inducted member of the Order and has received the final injection of Compound 36 to make the abilities it grants permanent.
As such, she has the normal complement of abilities granted by the compound:
|
Like all members of the Order, she can further activate the inert Compound 36 in her body to augment the aforementioned abilities even further. There is great risk involved in doing so, as pushing beyond an acceptable limit aggravates any side-effects of the Compound and can also lead to uncontrollable rage and an inability to form rational thought, relying purely on instinct and survival. Once this occurs, there is no treatment and the Order labels the individual an Aberration that is subsequently hunted and killed.
Harper also has a specialized Compound 36 ability. She has the ability to sense Compound 36 in others and can track anyone exposed to the Compound. Harper uses this ability by activating the Compound in her eyes, which allows her to see traces of the compound in the air as well as emanating from anyone exposed to it. She can then quite literally follow the visual trails of the Compound relative to its half-life when not biochemically bound to the individual from which they are emanating.
This is an uncommon, but not all together unique, skill. There is always at least one individual within the Order at any given time with this skill. This individual is usually referred to as the Oculus.
Other Information
Harper is fluent in English and Italian.
Harper was disowned by her family after she became an Initiate, which they saw as both selfish, reckless, and ultimately beneath her station in life.

Physical Appearance
Harper Vale appears pale and often sickly. This is due to her constant exposure to remnants of the Plague and to the Heretics themselves. She appears much older than she actually is, again due to her constant exposure. The scleras of her eyes have become darker recently, a trait often associated with those exposed to the Plague. Further, she is often disheveled, even during scheduled public appearances in which she represents the Host in a formal capacity.
Powers and Skills
Harper is an Archangel within the Host and has been implanted with Relics to support the Roman Catholic Empire. Harper's abilities have been rated by her Cardinal as the following.
