Cyril Baptiste is a Handler for the Consortium.

Early Life

As his surname might suggest, Cyril Baptiste descends from a Judeo-Christian religious family in southern France. He was sent to private boarding schools during the school year and would only return during holidays. Although the Church had long begun to lose its influence in the world around him, for Cyril it was still ever present in his home life. He was encouraged to go to seminary school and become an ordained minister. Although the teachings of the Church were not lost on him, preaching and ministering was not something Cyril was interested in doing.

He did, however, believe in the work that the Consortium was doing. He viewed the Consortium as the 'New Church'. What previous churches had failed to do, the Consortium had done gracefully. They healed the sick. They offered assistance to those in need. They developed GMO's that could grow in any soil and be harvested multiple times per year. What had been looked at as a potential famine in sub-Saharan Africa was quelled by the support that Consortium offered.

He turned down the Roman Catholic Church, instead going to university with the end goal of working for the Consortium.

In his studies, Cyril quickly honed in on statistics and economics, finding the two worked hand-in-hand. By looking at the placement of variables and how they relate to one another, Cyril found it easy to predict effects if there was enough information, historical or otherwise, on the potential causes. He had the concepts of linear regression and time series modeling and applied them to predictive models that were in high demand at the time, especially with global market fluctuations.

Upon graduation, he had several high-profile job offers, but the only one he was interested in came from the Consortium.

As a Consortium Consultant

Cyril had a natural inclination toward leadership, because leadership was -- for all intents and purposes -- a series of causes and effects. To get the desired effect of one variable, you have to adjust, change, or alter another. Although this was a relatively binary way of thinking, it had significant impacts to the Consortium as a whole. Cyril was adept at isolating flaws in processes and programs and recommend solutions for how to fix or re-engineer them.

His skills were in such demand throughout the various components of the Consortium, that he was asked to become a general consultant and, when situations called for it, his services would be deployed to a particular area where he would perform root cause analyses and identify critical problem areas. In a relatively short period of time, Cyril was able to improve efficiency and effectiveness of several major enterprise-wide programs, garnering him an invitation to work with variables a bit less predictable, but perhaps even more important.

As a Handler

At first, Cyril wasn't necessarily keen on the idea of Agent Handling. It wasn't his primary skill set, but he was assured that the work would essentially be the same. Problems would be identified and decomposed into missions with objectives. Cyril would then take these objectives and map the solution and how it would work based on availability of resources. The resources in question, of course, were the agents of the Order. Under this application of his skills, Cyril would see additional success, but failures as well.

Cyril doesn't view the Agents as human beings. Instead, he views them as resources and variables to be identified, understood, analyzed, and controlled. Although he provides the most detailed of instructions, accounting for virtually any possible outcomes, he does not establish rapport with them. One Agent is as good as another to him, so long as he or she has the requisite skill set to accomplish what needs to be done. His approach to Agent Handling is met with mixed reviews from his peers.

The mission that ultimately killed the agents belonging to Aurelia Pasquale, Elise Gerhardt, Mercer Lord, and Corrine Viceroy, as well as his own, was primarily constructed by him. Cyril had had such a long string of successes that it sent ripples throughout the Consortium that such a gross mistake had cost so many resources their lives. Still, he is favored among the senior leadership of the Order and although the impact of that mission was high, his list of previous accomplishments eclipses it.

Following the death of his previous charge, Cyril has recently taken on another agent, Aras Devirm.

Physical Appearance

Cyril Baptiste is a 52-year old, slightly overweight, middle aged man with small, circular wire-framed glasses and thinning gray-brown hair worn short and tight. He tends to dress in suits and ties, although these are rarely color-coordinated or what most would consider to be stylish on any level. He tends to squint, whether due to his eye sight or as a general force of habit. He sighs often, largely due to him being somewhat overweight.

Powers and Skills

Cyril has no powers per se, but is highly respected throughout the Consortium for his contributions and support of major programs and initiatives. Even still, as a Handler, his services as a consultant are continually requested for statistical modeling and predictive analytics efforts within the Consortium. Cyril's knowledge of statistics and economics are second to none, he is widely considered not just an authority within the Consortium, but globally as well.

Other Information

Cyril is fluent in English, Italian, French, Latin, and Spanish. It was thought earlier in his life that he may have had a photographic memory, but upon further testing it was found that he did not. It would seem then, by default, his ability to identify efficiencies extends to his brain as well with short-term and long-term memory storage.
