Ethan Darcy

Ethan Darcy was one of the five individuals aboard the Orpheus that woke up prior to it crashing into the Baltimore Harbor. Ethan, along with Miranda Corgan, Eva DeMedicci, Nomen Fitch, and Gavin Prescott, found themselves inextricably linked to one another through shared memories that were and were not their own. Many of them remembered things that were not in existence, such as Lightnet, Devlinari Industries, and Genus, although none of these entities existed in the world that they had been birthed into. Upon escape from the Orpheus, the group found themselves unexplainably drawn to a house on Williams Street, where they had seen on a live television news broadcast that the ship they were on was sinking and that Dr. Kieran Foster had been captured and brought into custody at Fort McHenry, a local military base. Ethan, along with the rest of the group, staged a plan that would allow them to extract Dr. Foster and hopefully give them the answers they needed.

Ethan, unfortunately, would not live to find those answers, as he was killed during the mission by Garrison of the Global Security Initiative's Defense Guard.

Aboard the Orpheus

Ethan was awoken to life inside the canister to the sound of an alarm going off within the Orpheus. A proximity warning triggered the Orpheus' life support systems and released the safety guards in the capsules, allowing each individual contained within to awaken. It was shortly after that armed guards began raiding the ship, as seen through the surveillance feeds accessible in the lab where the canisters were held. As the others came into consciousness, a strategy was formulated to peel back the layers of the hull and swim to the surface.

Ethan was able to magnetically force a tear in the hull and fold it back, providing them the access route needed for their exit strategy. Upon surfacing, Ethan and the others quickly realized that although they were familiar with the year 2030, they were not familiar with the 2030 of the world they were in. Things familiar to them were not present, including the mass market and production of holographic technologies -- technologies that were the staple of the world where they came from.

Fortunately for the group, there had been a polar plunge in which hundreds of individuals were dipping into the cold waters of the Chesapeake Bay as a fundraiser, allowing them to surface freely and avoid much of the police and military presence that had quickly formed in and near the sinking Orpheus.

1431 William Street

Each of the individuals had several instincts implanted into them while in the canisters. For example, each of them knew they had to find 1431 William Street and approximately where it was located relative to their position within the Baltimore Harbor. Each of them also knew where to find the key to enter, an impossible feat given that none of them had been there at any point prior. Upon turning on the television, a live news broadcast had shown the fate of the Orpheus along with that of Dr. Foster; captured by what was referred to as the Global Security Initiative, or GSI. None of the group were familiar with the acronym, adding to their confusion about a publicly-known agency with both military and operational authority. Various clues were found amongst them, including pictures of Dr. Foster and another doctor dated with a year that would have been impossible based on the fact that they had just seen the man on television and looked to be decades older than what the photograph (and its date) would have indicated.

After several more anachronistic anomalies were detected, including Ethan trying to dial Devlinari Industries, it was made certain at that point that the world from which each of them had come from was not the world they were currently in. A plan was set in motion to find Dr. Foster at Fort McHenry Military Base and find some answers.

Prior to setting forth on the mission, Eva DeMedicci had disappeared from her bedroom at 1431 William Street.

Fort McHenry

The group had formed a strategy whereby Alpha Team (Ethan and Nomen) would stay outside the perimeter and distract the military force while Bravo Team (Gavin and Miranda) infiltrated the facility in the confusion, find Dr. Foster, and get him to the extraction point -- an access road near Fort McHenry where a vehicle lied in wait.

Shortly after setting a vehicle on its side and using his magnetic manipulation abilities to send it flying, Ethan and Nomen were quickly surrounded. As gunfire and ballistics became too powerful, Ethan had switched to a defensive mode, where he placed an electromagnetic shield around both he and Nomen while Nomen had managed to subdue several of the helicopters providing suppression fire for the ground troops.

It was during this time that Barricade and Rampart of the GSI's Defense Guard had appeared on the scene to ensure Dr. Foster was safely moved to a GSI holding location. Barricade and Rampart proved to be an even match for Nomen and Ethan, neither group giving ground to the other. During this time, Miranda and Gavin had fully infiltrated the facility and were nearly in reach of Dr. Foster until Garrison and Palisade of the Defense Guard had stopped them. By a stroke of luck, Ethan's electromagnetic abilities had disrupted some of the local power grid, allowing Dr. Foster to escape his prison cell and head outside, where Ethan and Nomen were able to find him.

During the escape, Dr. Foster was wounded and, in a self-sacrificing measure, Ethan had used his abilities to lift and push Nomen and Dr. Foster to the extraction vehicle, just prior to Garrison unleashing a focused laser beam that had segmented him half.

Powers and Abilities

Ethan Darcy was skilled in creation and manipulation of electromagnetic energies. He was shown capable of manipulating both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as displaying an uncanny knack for technology and engineering. After only a very short time of being 'awake', he was able to split the side of a ship hull, but was not strong enough to also block the rush of water coming in at the same time -- something he needed Nomen assist with.

Prior to the assault on Fort McHenry, Ethan was able to create a secure frequency from a set a two-way radios that allowed the team to remain in contact with one another. This low-tech solution was surprisingly versatile given the circumstances, but would likely have been more robust if more time and materials had been provided.

Other Information

It was not known if Ethan was a clone, as Dr. Foster had previously indicated, as there were no tests or analyses performed on his DNA. Also, the exact reality from which he hailed was not revealed during his time with the group.
